What it actually does
The MOEN Smart Leak Valve installs on your main water line — usually right where the line enters your home. It does three things continuously:
- Monitors flow. It tracks every gallon flowing through your home, 24/7, using an ultrasonic sensor.
- Learns your patterns. After about a week, it knows roughly what "normal" water use looks like at your house — when people shower, when the dishwasher runs, when irrigation cycles.
- Detects anomalies. When something doesn't fit the pattern — a continuous flow when no one's home, a slow drip lasting hours, a sudden burst — it alerts you on your phone and can automatically shut off the water.
Real Vegas use cases
- Burst pipe protection. A burst pipe in an unoccupied home (vacation, snowbirds, rental) can dump 50,000+ gallons before anyone notices. The MOEN shuts the water off within minutes of detecting the flow.

Installation process
Total time: 2-3 hours typical. Here's what we do:

- Cut the main line where it enters the home (or another accessible spot)

- Restore water and pressure-test
- Connect to your WiFi via the MOEN app
- Configure your home profile and walk you through the alert settings
We don't leave until you've successfully tested an alert on your phone and you understand how to use the system.
Does it need WiFi?
Yes — the valve connects to your home WiFi to send phone alerts. If WiFi goes down, the local monitoring and auto-shutoff functions still work, but you won't get phone notifications until WiFi is restored.
